Biographical Data:
Dr. Sangeeta N. Bhatia joined the Bioengineering Department at UCSD in
1998 after completing postdoctoral training in the Center for Engineering in
Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She trained at
Harvard/MIT under the guidance of Dr. Mehmet Toner, a tissue engineer and
cryobiologist. She has also had several stints in industry in the areas of
biotechnology, medical devices, and in pharmaceutical drug development. She holds a
number of patents for both clinical and biotechnological applications of
engineering principles. She is the recent recipient of the David and Lucile Packard
Foundation Fellowship and the Whitaker Young Investigator Grant. Her
current research is in the area of cellular therapies for liver disease and
biological micro-electro-mechanical systems (BioMEMS).
